Read what other caring pet owners have experienced as a result of over-vaccinating companion animals.
"I just lost my beloved cat to VAS in July 2007. He was a very special
cat and I loved him dearly. All these years, I took him to the vet to
get his shots because they were "required" and I thought I was doing
the right thing. His death could have been prevented. They know it is
wrong. Pzifer drug company sent me $300 towards my $3000 vet bill.
Nothing can replace the ball of fur that I lost. If education can save
even one animal, this has been worth it!" ~Janie Shay
"I just lost my beloved 12-year young cat to Vaccine-Associated Sarcoma
last week. The site of the sarcoma was where my cat had been injected
with Fort Dodge Animal Health's Rabvac 3 rabies vaccine, a 3-yr. cycle
vaccine, approximately 3.5 years ago." ~Joanne Slivinski
"My 10 year-old cat died in January 2007 from vaccine associated
sarcoma. It's bad enough that we have to vaccinate our healthy pets
with dangerous drugs, but it's even worse that we are forced to
vaccinate sick ones." ~Patricia Lopez
"The rabies vaccine ruined my Rottweiler's life! After I was forced to
vaccinate her, she blew up with hundreds of fluid filled bumps all over
her body that never went away. She would never stop itching and was
miserable. She would also hide in the closet when she wouldn't do that
before, she became very scared of strangers. No vet could help her and
had no explanation. I will never do that to another animal in my care
again!" ~Kellie Ingram
"I believe my older Shelties developed multiple tumors due to over
vaccination. I definitely see no need for frequent rabies vaccinations
for elderly dogs that never leave home and are not exposed to rabies.
There are too many questions about this protocol...lets err on the side
of caution." ~Christine Teel
"My almost 8 year old golden retriever had a severe reaction to her 2ed
set of annuals 5 1/2 years ago and we almost lost her. I lost her littermate brother to
autoimmune hemolytic anmiea brought on my the 6 month heart worm
preventative injection, Proheart6. Ten moths later it was pulled from
the market. Dogs are being over vaccinated, my vet tells me the rabies
vax he gives are good for 3 years. I would prefer to have not get them
at all in another couple of years." ~Barbara Henslee
"I have a young kitty that has multiple high risk health problems. His
little immune system has already been highly compromised. I feel that
giving him the mandatory rabies shots can be a death sentence for him
and he is only 2-1/2 years old. We spend thousands of dollars to keep
our pets alive and healthy and by imposing laws that put our pets in
further danger is heart wrenching and criminal." ~Dan Josephson
"My Service Dog almost died from a severe adverse reaction to a routine
vaccination in 2003. It affected her neurologically and rendered her
unable to properly function as a SD for 10 months. She has not been
vaccinated since then, and her general health has improved considerably
– including the complete disappearance of her lifelong allergies. I now
feel I had been paying our veterinarian to compromise my dog’s health
as well as my own health and safety (as the direct result).
The whole
experience got me to reflecting on memories of my distant youth and I
believe there is far more involved. The range of behavior problems we
now see in dogs was unheard of and unwarranted aggression was rare
before the days of mass (and clearly over) vaccination. I think this
issue desperately needs exploring – and it needs to be considered way
beyond the affects on dogs’ physical health." ~Pat Styles

Jim Schwartz lost his dog to a deadly reaction to an annual rabies booster in Colorado. The veterinarian sent the card for the annual booster, even though the law had recently changed in Colorado to a three year booster requirement (spurred to change by reports from Colorado State Veterinary School). Jim Schwartz has since presented many investigations in Colorado and nationally and hopes to help pets and their owners avoid the fate he and his dog suffered while he was acting as a good citizen and loyal dog owner.
Permission to cross-post granted.

There a many, many more stories of animal guardians who suffer anguish because they believed that boosting vaccines annually was the right thing only to learn too late the negative effects. And there are many, many more pets who have suffered long or died too soon as a result of this practice. The only worse thing is if we permit this practice to persist.
